Shila Mathew, MD, DABMA
Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
Dr. Mathew is a board certified psychiatrist, licensed to practice in the State of Ohio. She has her Medical Education from a well known and respected university in India and did her psychiatry residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Mathew has also undergone training in Medical Acupuncture from McMaster University School of Medicine and joined the ranks of the very few doctors that are awarded the prestigious diplomate of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture.
Dr. Mathew has extensive experience in treating patients with acute and chronic psychiatric problems. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings treating various mental illnesses. She has admitting privileges to several area hospitals including Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Mathew enjoys working with people who have schizophrenia, major depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and adult attention deficit disorder. She has years of experience in working with elderly people who have dementia and other life stressors.
What sets Dr. Mathew apart from others is the fact that she incorporates holistic approaches (mind and body), where appropriate, in treating her patients. She is co-founder of a website http://www.holisticonline.com that has garnered an international reputation. With over 8 million visitors per month, it is also one of the most heavily visited sites for integrative medicine on the internet.
Dr. Mathew also works with people who are suffering from chronic pain. This is an area where the integrative medicine approaches are especially beneficial. Her approaches are very effective because she can combine her psychiatric and acupuncture skills together, if necessary, in treating her patients.
