Alexandria Amador, LMFT
My name is Alexandria Amador, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my Master’s degree from The University of Akron. Coming to a counselor can be daunting and intimidating but my goal is to meet you where you are and make you as comfortable through the process as I can. I want to work with you to reach the goals you desire for mental health and overall functioning.
I have experience in a variety of populations and issues. My specialty populations include families and couples. I also love working with individuals, adolescents, and LGBTQIA+. A few of the common issues I work with my couple and family clients often includes communication, broken trust, familial trauma, decreased connection and conflict management.
I have worked with many types of issues with my individual clients, a few of these include: social anxiety, generalized anxiety, trauma, depression, familial conflict, divorce, self-esteem, boundary development, and spouses/children affected by addiction.
My approach to therapy is systemic, which involves looking at not just the individual but also how their relationships, community, and institutions affect them and their issues. I also enjoy working from a cognitive & dialecticial behavioral view which focuses on changing negative thought, emotion and behavior patterns and balancing the emotion and logic parts of our brain. I enjoy helping clients improve their self-esteem and pro-social skills. I approach my clients with nonjudgment and focus in on their strengths to aid them through life’s challenges.
In my spare time I like to be cozy and read a book with my cat in my lap. I love trying new experiences and I often travel around Ohio looking for new things to do. I look forward to getting to know more about you and your life.
