 Alex Maryles, PsyD, Clinical Psychologist

My name is Alex Maryles, and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I earned my doctoral degree in Combined Clinical Child-School Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology in New York. I work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a variety of mental health, behavioral, relationship, and life concerns. I have particular expertise working with adolescents, ADHD in both adolescents and adults, depression, social anxiety, men's issues, and major life transitions.

My approach to therapy begins with developing a strong therapeutic relationship where clients feel comfortable exploring experiences that may be difficult to talk or think about. I meet clients where they are and work collaboratively to help them better understand their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, relationships, and experiences. As our work progresses, I help clients develop greater insight and awareness of patterns that may be affecting their lives and identify healthier ways of responding to challenges.

My approach is grounded in a developmental perspective, recognizing the connection between the mind and body and the ways that relationships and experiences earlier in life can continue to influence how we think, feel, relate to others, and understand ourselves throughout our lives. I consider both the experiences clients are consciously aware of and patterns they may not immediately recognize, helping them develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships.

I have particular expertise working with adolescents and enjoy helping teens navigate depression, social anxiety, ADHD, anger, behavioral concerns, relationships, identity, and the transition toward greater independence and adulthood. My doctoral training focused on clinical child and school psychology, and I also have expertise in attachment-related concerns and conduct and behavioral concerns. I am certified in play therapy and work with children when appropriate, generally preferring to work with children ages 10 and older while considering younger children beginning around age 6 based on their individual needs.

I also have particular expertise working with ADHD in adults, men's mental health, and life transitions. I enjoy helping adults better understand longstanding patterns, navigate changes in relationships, work, identity, or stage of life, and develop a stronger understanding of themselves and what they want moving forward.

In addition to these areas, I work with clients experiencing anxiety, OCD, trauma and PTSD, anger, parenting concerns, personality-related concerns, and process addictions such as gambling, shopping, and internet use. I also have particular experience working with social anxiety, phobias, and trichotillomania (hair pulling) and provide affirming counseling for LGBTQ+ clients and concerns related to sexual orientation.

My goal is to create a thoughtful, nonjudgmental space where clients can better understand themselves, recognize patterns that may be keeping them stuck, and develop new ways of approaching their emotions, relationships, and life experiences.
