Candace M. Rau, MA, LPCC
My name is Candace M. Rau, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary. I work primarily with adults, as well as adolescents ages 14 and older, experiencing a variety of emotional, relationship, and life challenges. I have particular experience working with anxiety, depression, major life transitions, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, trauma, and concerns affecting women throughout different stages of life.
My approach to therapy is supportive, collaborative, and individualized to each client. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize and change patterns of thinking and behavior that may be contributing to emotional distress. I also incorporate skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients better manage difficult emotions, cope with stress, and strengthen their relationships. When working with clients who have experienced trauma, I approach treatment with an understanding of how past experiences can continue to influence thoughts, emotions, relationships, and daily life.
In addition to working with people with a variety of mental health concerns, I particularly enjoy working with women navigating anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and significant life changes. I have experience supporting women through infertility, pregnancy loss, and postpartum depression and anxiety, as well as divorce, relationship changes, and other transitions. I also have expertise working with couples, including those experiencing communication difficulties or infidelity, and with parents seeking strategies to strengthen family relationships.
I have extensive experience helping individuals who have experienced trauma and PTSD, domestic violence, sexual abuse and other traumatic experiences. I also work with first responders and understand that repeated exposure to stressful or traumatic situations can affect emotional well-being, relationships, and life outside of work.
My goal is to provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients can better understand what they are experiencing, build practical coping skills, recognize their strengths, and work toward meaningful changes in their lives and relationships.
