Lauren Griffin, MA, CT
My name is Lauren Griffin, and I am currently a Counselor Trainee in Ohio, and will soon have my Licensed Professional Counselor licensure. I have a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, as well as the Children and Adolescents and Couples and Family Certification from The University of Akron. I have experience in counseling and supporting children and adolescents across all developmental stages and life experiences.
I approach therapy with a foundation of authenticity and curiosity. I strive to empower clients to embrace who they are in a world that often pressures people to “fit in.” I have experience in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT/SFBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). This integrated approach helps to understand emotional and behavioral patterns, build effective coping skills, strengthen motivation for change, and identify solutions that align with your strengths and values. I am also passionate about utilizing a humanistic, person‑centered approach that emphasizes empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. My work is grounded in existential principles, supporting clients as they explore meaning, identity, and personal choice. I also incorporate play therapy to help individuals express themselves naturally and safely through creativity, imagination, and symbolic play. Together, all these approaches create a supportive environment where clients of all ages can deepen self‑understanding, build emotional resilience, and move toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.
In addition to working with a wide range of mental health concerns, I am passionate about supporting individuals navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, self‑harm, suicide prevention, LGBTQIA+ experiences, and spiritual or religious deconstruction. Outside the therapy room, I value time spent in community with friends and family—whether that means hiking, getting creative, sharing a meal, or simply running errands together. I also enjoy cooking, baking, gardening, traveling, art history, architecture, thrifting, archaeology, and ancient history. I love learning for the sake of curiosity, often through documentaries and hands‑on exploration. My most recent adventure took me to Italy, where I immersed myself in the art and architecture of Rome, Florence, the Vatican, and Pisa.
