Nicole Poynter, MA, LPCC, LSW

My name is Nicole Poynter and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Licensed Social Worker. I have a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Akron. I am a member of the Ohio Counseling Association. I am also working on becoming a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional. I have experience working with children, adolescents, young adults and couples and families. My approach to therapy depends on the client and situation. I mainly use Play Therapy with children and a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy with teenagers and adults. Solution Focused Therapy meets the client where they are and works on current concerns. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy teaches clients how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected and ways to challenge negative thinking patterns.

In addition to working with a diverse population of clientele, I especially enjoy working with people who experience anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+, ADHD, parenting concerns, relationship distress, anger management, and adjustment concerns. I have been happily married for 15 years and we have 2 beautiful girls. We also recently got a Sheepadoodle. I enjoy reading and cooking when I get a chance.
