Renae Chung Clinical Psychologist at Avenues of Counseling and Mediation

Renae Chung, PhD, Clinical Psychologist

My name is Renae K. Chung, and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I earned my doctoral degree from the California School of Professional Psychology, in Fresno CA, and my bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University. With more than 25 years of clinical experience, I have worked with adolescents, adults, and elderly population in a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient community mental health centers, and local colleges as an adjunct instructor. I have been the director of the counseling services, in Wooster OH for several years, and have been won several awards, over the years, for outstanding service and performance.

My counseling approach is eclectic, meaning I tailor treatment to meet your unique needs by drawing from a variety of evidence-based approaches. For example, I may incorporate multicultural counseling, which explores the influence of your cultural identity, in a culturally responsive and affirming way. I also utilize Systems Theory to examine how relationships, family dynamics, and environmental influences your well-being. Most often, however, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps identify and change unhelpful thought and behavior patterns so you can develop healthier coping strategies to create meaningful, lasting change. If requested, I also provide Christian counseling, integrating your faith and spiritual beliefs into the therapeutic process, that is consistent with your personal values. In addition, I have specialized experience in trauma-informed care and was certified in providing ADHD testing and assessment.

I am currently accepting clients ages 17 and older for teletherapy only, allowing you to connect through secure video sessions from the comfort and privacy of your home. I am passionate about helping people navigate life's challenges. My goal is to provide a supportive, safe, collaborative, environment where you can build resilience, improve your mental health, and move toward greater healing and fulfilling life.
